The Plein Hotel
This hotel is in Milan, and my wife and I stayed here on the last night of our honeymoon in Italy. The hotel is located away from the most crowded areas of Milan, but well within walking distance to the main attractions.
Booking:
I booked one night at this hotel using a Hilton Free Night Certificate, and the cash price was approximately $1,500 per night. I booked the base room at the hotel, which is called a Deluxe Room.
Check-in:
We checked in, and we were told we were being upgraded to a Spa Deluxe Room. I was hoping we would get lucky and be upgraded to a suite because the suites look amazing on the hotel’s website. I was still happy to be upgraded to a Spa Deluxe Room though, as each of these rooms have a sauna in the room.
Room:
Even though we were upgraded to a Spa Deluxe Room, for the most part, the room was a basic hotel room, although the decor did add a nice touch to the room. The only negative thing about the decor was an extremely low hanging chandelier, which I hit my head on multiple times throughout our stay.
The highlight of the room was the shower, which was in the middle of the room, enclosed by glass on all sides, and had LED mood lighting, and an in room sauna. The sauna took about an hour to heat up, but it did a great job maintaining its heat once it was heated.
Food:
The food was the highlight of this hotel. We had dinner at Sukaru Ba, which is a Japanese restaurant at the hotel. We ordered various sushi rolls, and it was the best sushi I have ever had. One roll was even brought to the table on a Samurai sword! Our dessert was ice cream, which was inside a golden plated skull.
The hotel’s signature restaurant is Phillip’s Club and Restaurant, which is named after the hotel’s founder, designer Phillip Plein. It is a restaurant and night club, and while we did not eat there or go inside, there are huge glass windows dividing it from Sukaru Ba, and we were able to watch the show as we at dinner. Phillip’s Club and Restaurant looked to be even more swanky than the rest of the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel is served in La Jungle de Plein. The breakfast menu was huge and had a great variety of typical items you would expect at a hotel breakfast. Also included with breakfast was a glass of champagne, which I gladly drank. The food at breakfast was just as delicious as dinner the night before.

Amenities:
The hotel offers several amenities, although we did not take advantage of any of them. Among those amenities are in room spa services, butler services, and pet sitting services. All of these amenities obviously aim to provide the same luxurious experience as the rest of the hotel.
Value:
The use of the free night certificate provided great value for this hotel. Staying for free in a hotel where rooms are priced at $1,500 per night is always a great experience, and the amazing food at dinner and breakfast made the experience even better.
Overall Impression:
This was a great hotel. It was a little more swanky than what I would prefer, but overall it was a great experience. The food was obviously the highlight of the hotel, but the entire experience was worth the use of a free night certificate.
